That is how this knowledge has always been passed on. The Gita itself tells Arjuna to learn it from those who have seen the truth: approach them with humility, ask your questions, and serve them, and they will teach you.
The reason is practical. The mind is very good at hiding from itself. It mistakes an idea for understanding, and it quietly steers around the questions it would rather not face. A teacher can see where you are stuck, answer the question you did not know to ask, and keep you honest in a way your own reading cannot.
What follows can support that work. It cannot replace it.
